Yes, this horse has nearly had it...

But it does not have to be a "series wound" (field electro-magnets
wired in series with the commutator) motor to have the properties
described -- the common permanent magnet type works the same.

{Some AC motors have similar properties -- but DC Machinery is a several
lectures/week EE course, and you do not want to ponder the additional
esoterics of AC machinery....}
