Hi Greg:

There are three different varieties of Spider tachometer, at least on the 105/115's).

If you've got a Duetto or Kamm-tail up to about '78, the tach is mechanical, and driven by a cable coming from a drive gear at the bottom of the water pump. First thing I'd do is give the tach housing a sharp slap while the engine is running, and maybe that will wake the tach up. Otherwise, check the fitting of the cable on both ends, and if they're properly attached, you may have a broken cable. And, of course, the tach might just be broken, but I haven't seen that happen yet.

On all the later (~'79 -on) cars, the tach is electronic. Problem could be a loose wire, bad ground, cold solder joint, etc. Inoperative tach's (and speedo's, too) on the single-pod dashes are a way of life.

In any case, you can drive the car all you want without making anything worse, and it's not likely that your tach ever read correctly, anyway.

and of course I didn't as much attention as I should have when previously
discussed.

I went outside to move my Spider with plans on driving it later today. The
tach didn't spin. Not even after a little "revving". I know sometimes it
doesn't register immediately after starting while at idle, but after a
quick blip of the throttle it usually works just fine.

Any ideas of things I can check quickly and easily while parked on the
street before going for a drive? Should I postpone the drive because
something might get worse and be more expensive to fix?
