Re: alfa-digest V9 #336 - Transmission wrench
I made a wrench to fit Allen head bolts. I took 1 x 1/4 x about 9 inch
steel strap, rounded the ends and drilled a 1/2 inch hole in each end. Then
I cut the head off a 14 mm and a 17 mm bolt. I put the bolt head over the
hole and welded through the hole I drilled. One bolt head faces one
direction, the other the opposite.
I thought I had invented this tool. However, someone pointed out that
the Giulietta tool kit included just such a device.
For a transmission, you might need to curve the steel strap handle.
Just make sure the head of the bolt you use fits nicely into the Allen you
wish to remove before cutting it up to make the tool.
12 mm Allen wrenches, the normal L shaped ones are readily available.
That is the size that fits the transmission on later Alfas. I am not sure
about your Super.
I do not remember why I made mine 14 and 17 mm. I did use it recently
to remove the cam cover bolts on my 1967 Giulia 1300 sedan.
