Subject: Fiat Premier Group sold to VW

When I drove my GTV to my dealer for a service, the salesman told me that Fiat
was selling the premier group (Alfa and Ferrari not Maserati) to VW. Complete
crap I believe, anybody has heard it ?

I've been reading <www.italiaspeed.com> lately, and it seems to do
a good job of covering what's happening with Fiat's auto divisions.

To answer the question -- it's complete crap. Right now, Ferrari and
Maser are part of the Ferrari group, and Alfa is part of the Fiat Auto
group, so there's no way Alfa and Ferrari could be sold to anyone without
a lot of changes in corporate organization (not to mention GM's right to
veto any changes). As for VW, there has been some discussion between
Fiat and Audi about sharing technology (4wd and/or suspension, I think, but
don't quote me), and there have been
rumors about VW buying a (minority) equity stake in Ferrari/Maserati becuase Maser
needs cash to develop their SUV and Ferrari doesn't have enough right now
and obviously Fiat doesn't either.
