Re: Great (Exhaust ) Ideas - No Stebro Content
I missed this the first time... I have a 164LS and one of the previous
owners had a custom exhaust installed. There is no front (or middle) muffler
and the rear muffler is Remus.
A bit deeper than I'd like (while in the car) but sounds good when I hear it
from the outside (as someone drives it).

I would like to hear about exhaust solutions that other than Stebro, Ansa,
et alia.
I only have experience with 105/115 exhausts, but have found stock or Ansa
front mufflers to fail quickly. When they do, I remove the exhaust, make a
simple jig (on the plywood floor of my trash trailer) cut out the front
muffler, and weld in a JC whitney glasspack (2ID core x3.5" case x 12"
length) (about $15). These never wear out. I've had much better longevity
with the middle muffler, and observe that they have the most impact on
overall sound. The larger the center muffler, the quieter the exhaust
note. If they fail, a Magnaflow 11114 (2"ID, 3.5x7" oval x 14" can) is a
good size replacement (about $65). I like the Stebro tailpipe and have it
on several cars. The Ansa tailpipes I've had rusted out quickly and the
upswept tips soiled the back of the car.
