Re: Changing oxygen sensor : spider 1986
Here is my advice:
Soak the sensor thread area with penetrating oil, each day, for several
days. Be sure to drive the car each day as well to help work the oil in.
When you are ready to remove the sensor, soak it again and using an
appropriate wrench, loosen the sensor incrementally. Work it slowly loose
90 to 180 degrees at a time, and rotate it back clockwise as well to help
relief and release the threads. Apply lots of penetrating oil during the
loosening procedure as well.
Shouldn't be any need to remove the pipe or manifold from the car unless
there is an access problem (like on my '88 BMW 735i which I am changing the
sensor on any day now!).

Hi all,
I want to replace my oxygen sensor on my spider 1986. I know, by experience
with other type of car, that it involves a lot of strain to unscrew the O2
sensor. So I am worrying about the stress capacity of the exhaust tubes and
the manifold. Is it better to remove the exhaust tubes or I can simply
unscrew
it with the exhaust in place ?
Any tips will be appreciated
