You answered your own question when you referred to "us" as "poor." You can't afford to buy politicians. Industries can.

(If you want to make yourself angrier, look at the European oil industry's reaction to the new sulfur content requirements that the EU announced for diesel fuel last week, and then look up why diesel VW's won't be sold in the USA after 2004.)
