'92 164L heater woes

hi all,

the hvac fan in our 196k-mile 164 sounds like hell.  squeal-city. 
that's when it works at all...  not enuff juice on speeds one & two to 
even get it to spin.  any way to rectify this short of pulling out the 
entire dash (or a/c)?  lube sufficient, or new/used fan in order?
