GTV6 CD Player Wrapup

    Many thanks to the numerous folks who replied off-digest and on-digest
to my query about a badly skipping new CD player in my GTV6.  To recap, I
bought a Blaupunkt Santa Fe CD player from Crutchfield.  The first unit
skipped severely over slight-to-moderate road roughness.  I have an 84 GTV6
with a completely stock and well maintained suspension  Crutchfield (whose
customer service was excellent throughout this trial, BTW) supplied another
identical Blaupunkt - regrettably, it skipped as badly, doing so once when I
hit a *single* centerline reflector on a smooth road - that incident became
known as "The Last Straw".  The old Sony unit, in the car when I bought it,
only skipped over very rough railroad tracks - unfortunately, it became
overly possessive of CD's, so it had to go.
    Fellow digesters overwhelmingly reported little or no skipping problems
with virtually all of the other major CD player manufacturers, even with
stiffly sprung & lowered cars.    I really liked the adult styling and clean
controls of the Blaupunkt, but since listening to reasonably continuous
music was the ultimate goal, I returned the second Blaupunkt in exchange for
a comparably priced Sony CDX-CA400.  Success!  Virtually no skips (one over
a terrible bump) - I finally stopped cringing before each expansion joint.
The Sony isn't quite as *tasteful* looking as the Blaupunkt, but the four
gaudy red buttons do complement my always-on brake pad thickness warning
light rather nicely....
    Perhaps Blaupunkt had a bad production run or maybe the shock resistance
design is simply inadequate.  To avoid a belated Christmas card from the
Blaupunkt legal department, I'll let the readers draw their own conclusions.
