administrivia: the offtopic list

i'm just going to mention quickly in passing that one use of the offtopic
list  is as a place to send things that aren't appropriate in any other
venue you have access to.

i will be shortly posting my commentary on the extended dvd of the first
LOTR movie -- differences from the dvd/theater release, as well as
rehashing some of my carps about the original film.
