One thing I haven't seen anyone mention about Contact Patches and tire
sizes is that it doesn't matter the diameter of the wheel - it's the
diameter of the tire that changes the contact patch.
What this means is that just because I go out and get 17" wheels for my
Spider, doesn't mean I'm changing the tire diameter - in fact, my
personal reason for doing it would not be for looks, but would be to get
a lower profile tire on there, maintaining the diameter. That would give
the stiffer sidewalls and more feel I would look to accomplish.
