Re:thanks for trans info

Greg,

What you describe sounds like the ball on the end of
the output shaft. If it is damaged it is likely that the
bushing it inserts into, on the front of the driveshaft,
is also damaged. A "new to you" tranny mainshaft
with a good ball on the end will be needed, as well
as replacing the bushing in the driveshaft. You will
also need to figure out what caused the two to
wear against each other, including bad tranny mount,
donut, and hanger bearing/support to name a few
possibilities. I know www.alfahurtienne.de should have
all of these.

Good luck,

  <snip>
The nose of the output shaft was pretty battered looking, having fresh
metal
indicated contact....and wear. This may explain the rumbling I had been
experiencing during no-torque regimes. I'm guessing I should be looking for
these replacement parts and would appreciate any comments to bring this
assembly into correctness. Thanks again, Digesti.
