Warm up procedures
Depends on how old the car is. Modern fuel injected engines with synthetic
lubricants require no warm up before driving. However, no engine should be
asked to work hard or rev high until it has reached a reasonable temperature.
Redlining an engine with no load is far worse than with a full load.
Inertia loadings peak on the exhaust stroke at TDC when the piston
reverses. Loading the engine prevents the overshoot that will otherwise
cause the engine to rev beyond redline even with a limiter. Bang is a usual
noise heard as that occurs.
In Canada we still have folks who insist on idling their engines until
warm. This is now known to be incorrect and increase engine wear.
Cheers
and the ITU is useful for any make. Any street engine will benefit from
occasional full throttle high rpm activity.
