1600 into 2000,70's GTV into Spider
The 105 / 115 Alfa engines, transmissions and differentials are all
more or less bolt in changes. Or if not a direct bolt in, interchange is not
a large problem to the resourceful mechanic. The GTV and sedan wheel base is
different, so the driveshafts are different lengths.
Use a late model bellhousing with the 1600 engine and 1600
transmission to get the hydraulic clutch to work. Watch the area where the
1600 shift rods protrude through the front of the transmission. There are
some differences in that area when you change bellhousings. Plus you have to
use the early starter and still may have alignment problems.
But why? The 1600 is 80% of the displacement of the 2000. The late
model transmission has a roller bearing on fifth gear that is missing on the
early car. Plus the late synchronizers may be different depending on when
your transmission was built or if it has been converted to late model parts.
Plus the early rear axle has no limited slip differential.
Putting a 2000 in an early car is worth the effort. I am not convinced
the converse is true. I would say to trade or sell the 1600 parts and use the
money to build the 1984 engine and driveline.
