of "heresy", and/or the rewriting of history

I didn't note it at the time it originally appeared (10 Sep 2002, in AD8-1093)
but I have since seen two quotes (by Richard Welty and Joe Garcia) of Eric
Storhok writing "It may be heresy to some purists (just like the 750/101 cars
were in the 50's)"- - . I don't question the choice being discussed to which
this comment was an offhand sidenote, but I do question this comment.  My
strong impression is that there was no negative comment expressed on the
record about either the 750 or its 1900 antecedent when they were new or
relatively new models, although some quality control criticisms (of rust, for
example) emerged in time. If anyone can cite anything printed back then which
could suggest that the 1900, 750, or 101 cars were considered heretical or
retrograde or otherwise unworthy or disreputable by any 'purists' in the
fifties I would be very interested in hearing of it.
