Re: Bugatti origins

Last I read (Autoweek I believe) Bugatti, though baring an Italian name, was
in fact French engineered and manufactured. Inspired and designed by an
Italian none-the-less.

Autoweek has been known to be wrong before so I don't claim this info to be
gospel.

heh, if you want to know more about Bugatti, go beyond Autoweek (the
magazine of misinformation) ;]

Ettore Bugatti was an Italian born in Italy (near Milan) He setup shop in
Molsheim (close to Strasburg), which are both previously German cities.
Well, they are still German, but under la France now.

Bugatti was engineering and manufacturing ->his<- cars, so to be more
correct you can say they are Italian engineered and manufactured in
what was Germany. He wasn't just inspiring the process.

Anyway, later when this part of Germany became part of France, and
after World War II, Bugatti applied for French citizenship (don't know
if he denounced his Italian citizenship). Some say Bugatti is a French
marque (but why not German?). Saying it is Italian is probably more
fair. Note I said probably ;]
