Re: GM and Alfa

Folks, GM can build really good cars. It ain't their fault not many Americans will buy them.

The C5 Corvette is delicious. With the Northstar engine it would be absolutely world class (well they need to work on the goofy seats). GM keeps tuning that small block V8 derivative because NOTHING runs like a small block. I can tell you the engine feels a lot more sophisticated than its design indicates. You just get a silly grin on your face when you push the gas pedal. And she wheels around town like a compact car.

Those humongous Goodyear runflats, the traction control that allows those meaty boots to chirp their appreciation then hook up and slingshot you wherever, and you can tootle to the grocery store no problem. The visceral experience of a real American gut wrencher connected to a real road car just has to be experienced to be appreciated. This is no fiberglass rattletrap with no suspension, this is a real seriously fast car with steering and brakes to more than match the prodigious engine. Just plain fun.

Cadillac has a brilliant engine in the Northstar. The STS is a great car with too much Cadillac left in. The Olds Aurora was more like it, a truly lovely machine, nobody wanted it ,when an Intrigue with the dullsville pushrod v6 was half the price.

SIGH

Make no mistake, the boys at GM love cars and know how to build them, they're just crazy, they think they're in business to make money selling vehicles john q public thinks he wants to buy.

SIGH

Imagine the Northstar in an Alfa chassis...drool...
