AlfaBits Emergency

Folks, it is time to come out and help the 'Bits. Really.

AlfaBits is, arguably, the weld that holds our club together. I
won't patronize you with a list of the things it does for all of us, but we
all know that we depend on it, look forward to it, and feel disappointed
when it's late or some event is not featured.

Being editor has been an onerous job for those who have dared to take
it on, because of the variety of tasks which have been associated with
it. Our current editor has thrown up his hands, finding that he can't
continue to contribute to the Northwest Classic rally, be an involved
modern father, tend to a new job, AND edit the magazine. He has announced
that October will be his last issue.

An interim editor has agreed to take the job for three months, but I
do not know if there may be something we can do to convince him to continue
longer. We MUST take care of him!

We need your ideas for restructuring the editorial job so it is
bearable for one person. Perhaps we need an assignment editor, who can
assist by ferreting out stories and helping people remember to get their
material in on time. A little arm twisting may be necessary. We need
ideas for stories, and for some of you outside Portland to feed us some
material. We hear interest from members in Northern California,
Washington, and Idaho about joining our events, but what's going on in your
neighborhood? What is your latest project? Where is that 6C 3000 in a
barn that you've decided to not to haul away?

I'm going to revive the series featuring the most interesting Alfas I
can get to, and have many more stories swimming around in my head, (take
that as a threat, if you wish; how would it be if I stopped picking on Doug
Klein and zeroed in on you?), but the 'Bits used to have contributions from
a lot of our members, and needs to hear from you again. Some of the old
contributors have moved on, but we have a lot of energetic new young
blood. Where are you guys? How is the experience of discovering Alfas in
2002? How do you drive a GTV6 with a broken ankle? How'd you finally get
your GTV-6 through DEQ? Which local genius is building neat new parts you
can't do without?

Perhaps a small committee can be designated to assist the editor, to
assure the 'Bits is out on time and has all pertinent information. Please,
come forward. I am officially no one, but as an interested party, you can
write, e-mail me: [email protected], or step forward in a general meeting or
board meeting. My phone is (503) 246-2448, although my daughter is a
socially active teenager and you may have to leave a voice message. I
answer all, though I can't promise I'll be right. Call President Char or
any of the other luminaries at the numbers listed in the 'Bits; we'll
consider all suggestions and figure out some way to keep the AlfaBits
strong, regular, and full of content as (insert your name, this IS a
threat) on Metamucil.

AROO e-mail guy,
Joe Cantrell
