Re: 1982 GTV6's in the USA, and that "special" color combination

Jim Barrett asks about the seemingly ubiquitous silver paint/blue interior
combination on '82 USA GTV6: "Last evening, several of us were told that all
1982-model GTV6's that came to this country only had this color scheme, due to
some ordering glitch by ARDONA, the US importer." Ian Lomax replied "I have
heard the same thing, unless you had a Balocco special edition. I believe
that was a 1982 trim option on 500 cars, with red exteriors and black
interiors."

ARI, not yet then ARDONA, published a touch-up paint list giving 501 red, 754
silver metallic, and 759 grey metallic for 1981 (!) GTV6s and 530 red, 748
silver metallic, and 908 black metallic for the 1982 GTV6. I have dirty brown
'82 with the 908 sticker in the trunk, and that is evidently what
twenty-year-old black metallic turns into. One of the other listers also had a
brown 908 'metallic black' car, since crushed, so there were some around.

I believe that there were supposedly fewer than 500 of the Baloccos, which was
mainly a vinyl-stripe special although it may have had red piping on the seats
and red carpets too.

The blue upholstery on silver was certainly very common, has since become
rather intensely disliked by many, and I suspect may someday be prized for its
vintage period authenticity, like crackled paint -

Enjoy yours,

John H.
