Mo' Superchargers, EFI & Twin Sparks

Okay, just may have bitten off more than I can remotely ever understand.
Still, I've enjoyed reading and printing out everyone's comments.

Not trying to relegate the V6 folks to the background, but should I have
a car with one and wanted a bunch more power, I would 'merely' try to
find a Callaway Twin Turbo and basically copy what was 'invented' long
ago and apparently works quite well.

John Shankle did a turbo for the 4-cylinder over 20 years ago. I thought
it was butt-ugly (yes, aesthetics do play a major part in it for me -
should anyone have forgotten) but apparently worked fairly well.
Obviously turbo design, along with electronics have made a 'few'
advances in those twenty-some years.

Must admit that Eric Storhok's post in #1037 was the first breath of
fresh air (pun intended) regarding what has become, and which I never
intended (see above subject heading), a turbo vs supercharger debate.

To repeat, I personally can't afford any type of blown system. However,
it might be possible a client says to me, "Please restore my car as new,
but when rebuilding the engine, increase the power by 25 to 35%. Should
he not fall over dead when reading the estimate, I would then become a
buyer / reseller of some knowledgeable individual's services.

Let's also assume this Alfa has several smog tests ahead of it. I fully
believe a well engineered, Aesthetic, supercharged engine might well
pass smog if a tester is found which is primarily interested only if it
passes, not how it looks. However, a junky engine bay with hoses and
crap running every which way along with very home-made brackets, along
with a very Mickey Mouse looking welded up exhaust manifold will not
only make the client uneasy, but wouldn't fool even the most naive of
smog testers.

Would not external gearing (pulleys) make a big difference in how
quickly a supercharger 'spools up' (puts out reasonably quickly more
oomph than it takes away) - along with a waste-gate (blow-off valve -
for when it becomes fully wound up) and wouldn't / couldn't it be made
to make a fair amount of boost right from the git-go?

How sophisticated do the electronics need to be? Stock 'black boxes'
make me very uncomfortable. Custom, one-off, insides known only to one
person in the known universe scare the pee-pee out of me. How simple (as
in it works really well and is still bullet-proof) can the EFI and if
Really required, programmable ignition system be made?

Look! Even if I have to make you all rehearse until the wee hours, this
play is going to go on. Now get to work and learn your lines!

Hey kids, thanks for hanging in there on this Subject. See you all
tomorrow!
