Assuming the car is a Bertone GTV, the chrome button on the outside of the
window is held to the latch on the inside by a small snap-ring, or circlip,
as it's sometimes called.  If you don't remember seeing this piece, it must
have been missing already or got lost when you took the window apart.  If
it's gone, take the button to the store and find a snap ring that will fit
into the groove at the inner end of the shaft without falling off.
