I almost proposed an electric supercharger as a semester project in
thermodynamics in college.  I wanted to supercharge a 1.3 liter engine at a
half atmosphere of boost.  Using ideal models for the work required to
compress the air at WOT would require a few hundred amps at 12 volts.  Its
been several years since I went through this exercise, but the initial math
shows how unfeasible it is to convert mechanical energy to electrical energy
and back to mechanical energy to pump up your charge by a few pounds.
There's a reason why the really smart automotive engineers around the world
have never pursued this option.  People tend to forget that there is no such
thing as free energy and simple things like turning on the radio do in fact
have a parasitic drag on an engine.
