Subject: Future of Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese?

Now that Alfa Romeo is moving out of the factory in Arese I am wondering
whether this means that the days of the museum are counted. I have
never been
to the museum so I don't know if it is on the same grounds as the
factory.
1) Is the museum on the same grounds as the factory?
2) Does anybody know what Fiat Auto plans to do with the museum in the
near
future?

Yes, the Museo Storico is most assuredly on the factory grounds. In
fact, one has to pass through a security gate and an office building to
get to it. While I was there last fall, I was told by the Fiat press
liaison person that Fiat plans to relocate the museum to downtown Milan
in 2003. However, at the time, Fiat was planning on decommissioning the
site and tearing the actual factory down. Now, since Alfa as been
"spun-off" from Fiat as a semi-autonomous division, it is likely that
Alfa will more or less go its own way, unhampered by having to share
platforms with Fiat/Lancia. This said, there are some European auto
journalists who now think that Alfa will move BACK to Arese and begin
production there again. So whether the move to relocate the museum is
still on or not, is anybody's guess.
