Free to a good home: Auto Trans
Well, I've got the (not working) automatic transmission out of my '78
Alfetta Sport Sedan, and the eBay 5-speed in. Still have to work out a
way to mount the gearshift lever. Looks like they just cut a big hole
in the tunnel and erected a square-ish tower over it to mount the
auto-trans selector, so I'm going to have to fabricate something to
mount the manual lever. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.
The pedal box dropped right in.
So now I've got this ZF transmission, torque converter, and differential
to dispose of. I was told by the PO that it was "stuck in two gears or
something". I know that one of the bolts mounting the brake rotors had
a 1.25 thread pitch and the other eleven have 1.0, but I also have a
differential with the studs that mount the brake caliper broken off (it
was in the trunk). Also have the pedal box and gear selector, but I
removed the cable with bolt cutters, and the throttle kick-down cable
was tangled around the prop shaft when I got the car.
I'm sure that parts for these things must be all but impossible to find,
but how many people are looking? How many people _want_ an automatic
transmission in an old Alfa? So I need some advice from people who are
knowledgeable about the market for old parts: Should I keep it or junk
it? I'm not going to keep it long, in any case, so if you want it, come
get it (Dallas, Texas).
