Honing 4-cyl. liners?, Rings to use, Hastings?
Is it possible or adviseable to hone the original liners
in a '85 Spider? They don't appear to be scored or
excessively worn but wet compression test indicates
rings are bad.
Would like to hone the original liners, either in the
car or removed, and then put new rings on the old
pistons.
Does this sound like a reasonable thing to do for a cost-
effective engine restoration?
If so, Hastings rings seem to be a better choice than
Deves because they supposedly are work better with old
liners and break-in easier.
Any suggestions on either from past experience?
I've already ordered a Borgo liner/piston set but wonder
if it's worth the extra cost and trouble if the original
liners and pistons can be used.
The cylinder head will be rebuilt before reassembly.
Car has only 105K miles on the original engine but was
badly overheated by the P.O. due to a failed radiator!
Bought the car CHEAP and found the head to be badly
warped w/blown gasket. Really a shame because service
records show the cylinder head was rebuilt less than 3K
miles with new valves, guides, seals, etc.
Any comments or suggestions appreciated!
Thanks!
Jeff
