156 oil change interval

A friend of mine has just bought a new 2002 156 Twin Spark.

The car has now done about 2000km, and the next service is due at 20,000km.
The dealer has recommended an oil change every 10,000km, but to me even
that sounds a bit long.  Most Alfisti seem to chane oil at about 5,000km.

Does anybody have any thoughts on what would be best for a 156?
