brake booster not boosting

Could leaving the master cylinder off of the brake booster and 
leaving it open to the atmosphere for a couple of days have damaged 
the booster?  Since putting my car back together last night, it seems 
as though the booster isn't doing much boosting anymore.  I was 
hoping it was just the hose, but when I pulled it off the plenum it 
released vacuum.  I'm going to try a new hose anyway, though--anyone 
else have any ideas?
