RE: Spider alternator lamp faint glow
Just went through this with my '86 Spider. Managed to find an alternator
with 70amps and an adjustable regulator. NOw, at night, radio on and full
A/C, proper charge. Asked my guy about overcharging. Had an alternator in
a Lotus essentially melt from overcharging when a ground wire was shorted.
He said not to worry. It's been three months at least and no problems. If I
had to guess you probably have a 50 or 55 amp alternator. He said he
recently swapped another Alfa with a 60 amp and her car didn't seem to have
the glow problem. If you have a 60 or so amp already in, you may want to
take it to a good electric shop and have the spin it on a table. You may
only be putting out 40 amps, or a diode could be bad.
