Gas odor in car and window crank

Hi Y'all,

We have gone from diligent lurker to posting mode today. Deborah's 1986
Spider has a fuel vapor problem. Basically it stinks in the car, after going
up a large hill, i.e. 500ft elevation change, and when accelerating from a
stop while turning left. We have blown carb cleaner through the small
plastic hose that runs from the trunk to the vapor canister, and checked
the vapor canister for blockage, as well as the lines from the canister
to the intake plenum. The metal check valve has also been replaced. Does
anyone have any ideas? Is there vacuum being drawn on the system all the
time, or is there a valve as on newer cars?
Second question is how to tighten up the window cranks. i have tried
tightening the set screw, but the crank is still loose on the pivot. What
does one do?

Thanks plenty,

Stuart
