Re: cam & ignition timing
I have found many slow performing Alfas with the timing pointer index
improperly positioned. Use a dial indicator in No. 1 or 4 to set TDC on the
crank pulley with the pointer, it bends easily with a long screwdriver.
Now check and set your timing. Also, the index marks on the cam bearings are
different for different engines series and years, so if you switched parts
between engines that might have a bearing on your problem.
The old Shankle catalogs had a great deal of information on this subject as
does Centerline's. You will need a cam bearing lobe center degree template
to check the timing marks.
