Re: cam timing
Several possible reasons for the cam timing marks not lining up but the
timing sill being correct. Most involve SPOT (stupid previous owner
tricks). How about a head change from another car with different specs,
or cam bearing caps switched with another head, or cam switched and
didn't like the resaults so timing was changed to compansate. A friend
who works on them for a living just had a 101 in for hard starting, slow
cranking. After relizing that it had 250 psi compression he had a custom
head gasket made to compansaite for a milled head. It still cranked
slow, high current draw. After a very close look he relized that despite
the fact that the cams were lined up with the cam bearing marks, the
intake valve was closing at something like 15 degrees ABDC. Cams were re
timed with the use of a degree wheel to a book sepc and the problem
solved.
