Removing GTV6 steering wheel
George,
Great idea, but way to much time for the home
mechanic.
Here's what I learned from an old Alfa Mechanic. Take the
horn off, loosen the nut in the middle - but do not take off. Move the seat
as close as you can so that you can use your legs to lift of the bottom of
the steering wheel. Get two able assistants, have one pull up on the wheel
at the 9 and 11 positions, second person pull up at the 3 and 1 positions.
Use a brass punch/drift and tap on the wheel while everyone pulls up on the
wheel. In a couple of blows up pops the wheel - you keep the nut on so that
the wheel do not hit the person with the hammer in the face. This has had a
99% effective rate over the years, do not mention that last 1%.
