[i'm back from my trip and catching up on email. it turns out that both
cell phone and internet connectivity are problematic from both the north
and south rims of the grand canyon, not that this is really a suprise.]

it may not be alfakarl (in fact, it probably isn't).

at least some klez variants forge from: and envelope senders, picking
addresses out of the outlook address book the same way they pick To:
addresses from the outlook address book.

the infected computer may be an alfa digest member.

they have both the address of the alfa digest and alfakarl's address in
their address book.

they use outlook.

anyone who fits this profile should check if they are infected by klez;
they should go to a reputable anti-virus web site and take appropriate
steps.
