avoiding plenum popping (V6)

A Leading Authority suggests backing off the tightness of the screws securing
the air induction tubes (at the AFM end of things) so that in case of a
detonation the rubberoid pipe will pop off rather than launching the plenum;
less effort to put back together and also less chance to damage the hood and
its nifty tea tray.
My personal guess is that the plastic tray idea (together with the hood
bulge) is the result of stuffing the taller V6 into the front of a car
originally fitted with a 4. I believe once the bulge took care of the
absolute height issue, the cutout and plastic plug was designed to keep the
heat or "bounce" of the plenum from cooking of denting the middle of the
hood.
But it also comes in handy on picnics and photo shoots.
