Chroming / mirror location

Simple question, long answer. When mounting any pair of exterior
mirrors, it's mostly personal preferencebut not entirely. If I had the
choice of where I wanted to mount the mirrors (meaning either door holes
have been filled or will be, should it be necessary) I'd take my car,
the mirrors, a friend, and another car and place the other car in the
right rear blind spot as it would be on the highway. I'd then have
friend hold the mirror on both the right (passenger) door and see how I
liked it. Then try it on the fender. I'm not a fan of the Japanese
(home) version of installing mirrors waaay out on the fenders in any
eventexcept on some vintage English cars.

A possible consideration is if you drive the car in rainy weather.
Should you be tall enough and the windshield wiper makes a big enough
sweep to the right, you might be better able to see a fender mounted
mirror rather than one on the door with rain on the side glass and
possibly the inside side glass also being 'steamed up'.

Then make the left (driver's side) match the right side when permanently
mounting. One caveat is that if mounting on the doors, you might well
need to move right mirror slightly more to the rear so as to avoid the
wind wing's chrome surround getting in the way of the sight line.

That said, Joe Hart's '60 Spider Veloce has a pair of Talbot Senior
Berlin's mounted on the fenders. I personally feel they give the
Giulietta a slightly more aggressive look and that's where mirrors had
been mounted on the car when it was either new or close to it.

Two more considerations: Mirrors on the fender are less likely to get
bumped then ones mounted on the doors. If racing the car, it might be a
good thing to only glance over to see if someone is coming up on the
right side, as opposed to turning one's head to see.

I noticed the new Ferrari FX / Enzo has the side mirrors on the fenders.

All Talbot mirrors are available in either flat or convex first surface
mirrors and surface or U-bolt mounts.

I thought they were some sort of pot metal."

The top boot latches Are pot metal. I misread Robin Boyar's comment and
thought he was referring to the rear boot (trunk) 'script' which Is
aluminum. Sorry about that.
