Mine was the same way.   I removed the speedo and poured some Bicycle
chain lube down the cable as I drove slowly around the block.  Its been
fine for two years now.

Personal Rant:
You guys do now that Alfa is never coming back as long as Agnelli is in
charge.
There is one man with no vision, other than some dream of selling cars
in the poorest of countries.  He should do everyone a favor and
relinquish control of Fiat Auto.
