- Thread-topic: 1969 Spider - starts, then stops
At the risk of getting shot down in flames for asking a dumb question,
here goes....
My 1969 1750cc Spider Veloce has been in the garage for a few years
while my children have been born and grown some. This weekend I thought
it was time to give it a good clean and run it for a while. Much to my
delight, it started quite easily, and ran on idle and low revs while I
shunted it backwards and forwards on the front driveway.
By this time the engine was warm enough, and it didn't need the choke
any more. I let it run on low revs for about 10mins, using the hand
thottle lever next to the choke. But, if I try and open the throttle
much more than idle, it starts to splutter, and the revs die.
I've checked the really dumb things like...
- is there enough fuel in the tank? Yes.
- is the fuel getting to the carbs? Well the sight gauge and inline
filter both look full, so I'm saying Yes.
Could this be a carberetter problem, or a fuel blockage somewhere, or is
anything else likely?
At least it's a lot cleaner now.
Regards,
Keith Macdonald
