Daytona

The Alfa Romeo GTV-6 GT-2 car has done it again! We won the GT-2 National
this weekend at Daytona. This is 8 First Place finishes & 1 second place
(broken hub) out of 9 starts for the 2002 season. We already have the
maximum points that we can carry into the SARRC Invitational Championship
Race in September, and all of this before most of the country starts the
racing season. The Alfa clipped the radar on the banking just past the
start finish line just before the braking point for turn one at 168 mph.
This was with the short spoiler during the race. Without the spoiler I felt
like the car was faster on the banking but it was very loose at speed and it
definately needed downforce in the infield. The GT-2 field was made up of
John Hall`s Mazda and Carl Jung`s Mazda, both very fast, and I think John was
So. East Div. GT-2 Champion last year. There seens to be fewer Alfas racing
in the Club Racing series but we`re still trying to push the envelope with
this car. Next year`s car will be the Ron Nash Chassis Third Generation
Mazda, and I hope I can find the enthusiam for that car that I`ve had for
Alfas that I`ve had since my first Alfa EP car that I built in 1969. I was
told there is a picture of the Alfa in the new edition of TORQUE that just
came out, taken at Sebring where we set the new SCCA GT-2 long course track
recordin November Would love to have a copy if anyone has it.
