164 bonnet release

  Hi!
      being a little English impaired, i'm glad that you
      indicated that the bonnet is the hood, not the trunk
      or the top!

      anyway, the mechanism latches when spring loaded
      rods pop into grooves in the cone shaped pins mounted
      in the bonnet.   pulling the lever inside should retract
      both of the rods,   you can get them to retract by getting
      under the front of the car with some light and a couple
      of long screwdrivers, there is enough room in front of the
      radiator to reach up & retract the things, can be done
      one side at a time.

      sorry i can't seem to explain it any better, when i had to
      do it i could look at an identical one to see what i was
      trying to do!
