GTA engine is in
The GTA's engine came out in August of last year. I had pulled it, leaving
the transmission in place. Now it is all rebuilt again and assembled by
yours truly, and my friendly neighbor and I put it in this evening. Here's
a note I just forwarded to my friends:
Dang, that wasn't as easy as I'd hoped! Definitely a two-person job, and
I'd say my neighbor did the hard stuff! The engine actually went right in,
without any really crazy tipping angle, but the bear was mating the
transmission's input shaft to the engine...you gotta get that angle just
right, and the stars have to be in alignment, and then you have to get
underneath the tranny and reach around and pull on the oil pan towards you
to get her to finally come forward and meet up. It doesn't take much force,
but it's hard to apply the needed force. I will take my neighbor and his
girlfriend out to dinner for the 2 or so hours we battled it. Didn't even
come close to knicking the car, the engine just plopped in. Haven't
examined the fenders for dents yet, the blankets are still on the car, but I
think we were pretty careful. I've got most of the bolts/nuts fastened on
the transmission/engine, and will finish the others later this week.
Earlier in the day I drained the synthetic out of the gearbox, as it was
leaking out anyways, and will replace it with Shell Spirax 80W-90
before I start the engine. Yes, I will remember to do so.
If we weren't short a worker tomorrow, I'd call in and finish the job. Ah
well, the weather is cold and nasty, so maybe it'll be better on Thursday or
Friday.
Hopefully this one will last more than the 2 days the other one did. Hope
we got that shot peen material out of the block. Guess we will find out
soon!
