Slotted / Grooved rotors

I was confused about the surface area too, untill
someone said "concentric rings". I've only seen
the grooves that spiral out from the middle;
looking somewhat like fan blades.

Concentric grooves are totally new to me. My discs
appear to have them though, but they were not
created during the manufacturing process. It took
years to create. I better not hone them flat!!
