True Alfisti drive sedans (was: Re: Link tip - - )
In AD8-0570 Jorn Bereng asks "About the lack of Berlinas: Were they ever raced
at all by the factory or any other teams when they were new?"
Fusi's 'third' (or last) edition (actually second) has two photos of interest
on p.664; the upper one, leading a Ford (Capri?) and a BMW through a tight
corner, is captioned "La 1750 Berlina alla 24 ore di Francorchamps del 1968,
prima asspluta nella classe di serie". The lower one is less impressively "La
1750 Berlina prima assoluta al Gran Criterium della Marsa a Tunisi nel 1969".
That is only two shots, but perhaps not insignificant relative to the
competition shots he uses of Giulietta Sprints (2), Spiders (1) and T.I.s (2),
Giulia Berlinas of all types (0), T.Z. (1), GTA (3) and GTA 1300 Junior (2).
In the brief text he writes that "the 1750 made a victorious debut at the
Francorchamps 24 hours, with the four starters finaling 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th
overall in the unmodified touring class." That suggests, although it does not
state, that it was at least a factory-supported effort, and seems quite
respectable given the course and the duration of the event.
Berlinas forever,
