I had the same problem when trying to remove Milano/Alfa 75 torsion bars.
These don't have a removable carrier so because the idea of turning the car
up on its nose under a press didn't appeal to me, I decided to have a
coffee and think about it, And the solution ... use vibrations to break
the corrosion bond between the torsion bar and its housing and start it
moving. So out came my favourite (note spelling... :-) .. tool .. a ball
peen hammer and a few bangs near the front end of the bar (just behind the
splines) directed sideways made the bar ring like a bell. Its important to
wait after each blow till the vibrations die down. Then it was just a
matter of using a bronze drift on the back end, some taps with the hammer
and the bar was out.
I had spent over an hour on that first bar and hadn't touched the second.
Using this technique, the second one was out in minutes.
