couldn't resist this one.  The word you are referring to is actually 
spelled "spelled."

Curious :  how does the word horological refer to spelling ?

Hi Chris,

couldn't resist this one.  The item you are referring to is actually spelt
pawl.

A pall is a cover spread over a coffin (pall-bearers etc), the horological
correct spelling of the semi-toothed quadrant which the detent engages with
is pawl.

Just thought you would like to know.
