Droopy Clutch Pedal

After replacing the seeping slave cylinder on my 88 spider (52,000 miles) I
expected my clutch to be back to spec. Unfortunately, it seemed soft so it was
repeatedly bled it. There was no evidence of air in the fluid. The petal
travel was still very much reduced. Then I noticed the clutch pedal in its
resting position was quit a bit behind or below the brake petal. After
searching on line for possible causes I realized it was likely due to a
failing clutch pedal shaft. I should also mention that the master cylinder was
replaced about a year ago so I don't think its the problem.
Anyway, how difficult is it to replace this the clutch pivot shaft? I found an
article in the STL Alfa club's i saluti technical reference section about
replacing the petal shaft without disconnecting the brake and clutch lines. It
seems possible. I have not tried this type of repair before and would like
feed back and pointers from anyone who has. I have only limited Alfa repair
experience so feedback from seasoned veterans would be greatly appreciated
before I embark on this journey.
