A split boot is an indication that you may have contaminated the
interior of the CV joint itself.
It may be easier to take the axle off the car and have it re-built (or
buy a rebuilt, exchange). You need the right tools, and unless you
*really* want to DIY, it really might be better all around to have
someone else do it. Of course, if I remember reading correctly on the
Digest, there are those out there who don't do it right, and then it is
your time and effort to take the part off the car, and go get another,
under warranty.

obligatory Alfa content - I am keeping this on the Digest, as there are
several people who have asked about CV joints recently. I seem to have
picked up a feeling of wanting to do it him/them selves. So, OK.
