More performance mod questions (ignition)

I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I have a question regarding performance 
mods.   Now, I have a 90 SPider with the Motronic injection.  I have an AR 
Ricambi chip in it which I have been running for about 3 years and love it.   
I also have a K&N cone filter and love it too.  I used to have a 12" glasspack 
in place of the center muffler, but since have gone back to a new OEM center 
muffler and a Ansa rear muffler.  My question is, what kind of improvements 
would I get with a hotter spark box or coil such as an MSD box?  Better 
throttle response, more HP, or maybe nothing?    I understand how most other 
performence mods work, but I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the ignition  
 mods.  I know these things create more voltage and thus bigger sparks, but it 
seems to me that with the same abount of air/fuel and the same compression, a 
spark is a spark is  a spark.  Won't any spark ignite the mixture the same?
