cooling fan HP

Is this 5-7HP for the fan a good number? I've seen it in catalogs, but I've
also seen 12 HP for headers.
If there is a significant gain from removing the fan, I could hook up the AC
fan on my GTV to run from a thermostat. Where is the thermostat located on
aftermarket electric fan kits?
