clutch warning signs?

digesters,
milano gold, 90k miles.
early this week i was entertaining myself with a drag
start out of a toll booth. shifting from 2nd to 3rd
my clutch didn't engage properly: at 5500rpm i
shifted, revs dropped to about 3k-3.5k and i released
the clutch and was full on the gas - found the engine
revving at about 4k-4.5k with little acceleration. so
i backed off the throttle and the clutch engaged
properly and i continued on. on the next long hill i
tried to detect slippage with heavy acceleration in
5th (around 3k rpm), but couldn't detect any.

so clearly this is the end of drag racing for me:) but
am i headed for imminent clutch failure even under
clutch friendly driving?

thanks,
ethan schartman
