interesting to note that Alfa always seemed to squeeze  a little more HP

a given displacement from mass-produced engines than it's rivals.

The text describes the engine in the photographs as a 2-litre, but look
closely and you will see that it is a 1750, although it does have a 2-litre
water pump.....
